Are you aspiring to live in closer alignment with all that you hold sacred; yearning to connect with your inner wisdom; seeking to deepen your relationship with God, self, others, and creation; or discerning what to do next in the midst of a life transition?  If you answered yes to one of more of these questions, meeting monthly with a spiritual director may prove helpful.

The term spiritual direction can be misleading.  While there are various approaches to spiritual direction, in my practice, I do very little direction. A better way of naming what I offer is soul listening.

To “listen” another’s soul into a condition of disclosure and discovery may be almost the greatest service that any human being ever performs for another.

—Douglas Steere, Gleanings: A Random Harvest

My mission as a spiritual director is to create the conditions for your soul to speak and be heard.

As a soul listener, I aspire to:

Respect the sacredness within us, between us, and beyond us. Each time we meet, we will pause in silence at the beginning, end, and throughout our conversation to increase our awareness of the sacred in our midst.

Refrain from offering interpretations. As I listen to your experiences, my role is not to interpret the meaning of how Mystery is at work in your life. Rather, I will encourage you to keep listening within to your soul’s still, small, most genuine voice. I will also introduce you to spiritual practices for increasing your own capacity to discern your soul’s deepest truths.

Remain curious and adopt a not-knowing position. I trust that there is something we can learn from each and every experience you share. As your companion, I will offer what I noticed, appreciated, and wondered about as I listened—in an effort to help you increase awareness of your soul’s expressions and the sacredness of your story.

If you find yourself drawn to this form of soulful encounter, spiritual direction might be right for you.  I look forward to hearing from you.
